Not only is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the fastest growing sports in the world but it is known for its true effectiveness in real life combat or self-defense. That's why the police force, military and special forces all turn to Brazilian jiu-jitsu as their main source of hand to hand combat instruction.

Style vs Style Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) has proven it's self time and time again to be one of the most dominant martial arts styles on the planet.

Why? Because BJJ focuses on how to effectively leverage your whole body to control and dominate your opponents into submission. It's not about brute force and strength but about using proper technique with good balance, timing and leverage.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is still a fairly new art to the united states in comparison to others. BJJ made it's first major appearance back in 1992 at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) where Royce Gracie shocked the world when he took on guys almost twice his size in a no hold barred tournament and was able to submit them all practically without getting a scratch on him! Why was Royce able to do this? The answer is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! The other fighters had no idea how to overcome the grappling & submission techniques of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Now that EVERYONE is learning BJJ, people are finally learning how to defend it better and utilize some of the skills in their striking arts but without really learning the techniques taught in BJJ they are like a fish out of water and their other techniques become useless.

That's why it is so effective in self-defense. Anyone can swing a punch and get a lucky shot but not just anyone can execute a controlled take down to a dominant grappling position and submit their opponents with little energy.

Jiu-Jitsu can both be practiced as a sport and a self-defense art and the 2 can really be quite different in their focus. Here at the Clinch Academy we always start EVERYONE out with the self-defense perspective. By the time you graduate from white belt to blue belt (your first belt), you will have enough skills to defend yourself against just about anyone and even overcome Black Belts in other martial arts styles.

Our FOUNDATIONS or beginner class is a 42 lesson curriculum that teaches you everything you need to know to get your Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We even have all 42 lessons on video so that your learning doesn't have to stop here!
